I've been playing the violin since I was four years old, made my public debut at the Smithsonian when I was 6, and I've performed in numerous ensembles and with artists such as Andres Cardenes, Joseph Silverstein, Rachel Barton Pine, the St. Lawrence String Quartet and members of the Cavani String Quartet, to name a few. I like to have a consistent plan for all of my lessons, so that students know what to expect, as well as the best methods for practicing. I always start my students off with a warm-up consisting of scales or a technical exercise that relates to the piece that we are working on. I have had a passion for teaching music since I was in high school, when began a private studio out of my home in 2006. I obtained a Bachelor of Music degree in Trombone Performance from Baldwin Wallace Conservatory of Music in 2014, and two Master of Music degrees from the University of Michigan in 2014, in Trombone Performance and Chamber Music respectively. For classical studies, there are some standard saxophone repertoire books I like to go to. For brand new students, I use Essential Elements books, for intermediate students I use Rubank method books, and for advanced students I use the Ferling etude book. For jazz studies, I begin students with Lenny Neihaus' Jazz Conception for Saxophone, which lays a great foundation for jazz and swing playing. After this, I do a lot of ear training and memorization exercises for tunes, and talk about chord-scale theory. Read More

As I have taught many students on many different instruments, my focus has been on providing students with a firm foundation, including proper posture, breathing, embouchure, technique, and pitch/rhythm literacy. I have found great success in using the Essential Elements method books, and eventually move on to intermediate and advanced methods, focusing on etudes, scale studies, and solo repertoire.
