This allows me the freedom to tailor the instruction to the specific needs of the student and successfully find what creates their individual passion. I also believe that - especially in creative mediums like music and art - every negative critique I point out needs to be accompanied by at least two positive critiques. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule i one of the key points I like t emphasize for all students, as it helps the student to progress and gain a higher understanding and confidence in their voice. I am a native of Roma, Texas, a small town located in the far southern tip of the state. My music career initiated when my uncle, Jose F. Rodriguez, mentored me on classical guitar when I was 10 years old. My passion grew bigger by listening to recordings of the New York Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Berlin Philharmonic and other prestigious orchestral ensembles around the world, so I finally decided to enroll as a student at Texas State University to study bass trombone under the guidance of Martin G. McCain. My junior year culminated with a semester in New York City working in an administrative/artistic internship at the Metropolitan Opera. During school, and immediately upon graduating, I was fortunate enough to see my interest in music and theatre education realized in my work opportunities. I began to develop a deep love of performing, but struggled with severe stage fright, so I mostly kept myself away from any stage for many years. Years later I found a flute choir to join, where our performances were "safely limited" to churches and elder-care homes. With practice, many performances, and some unexpected networking I discovered some local "pro-jams" where I made my rock-alternative-jazz debut.
