Maya was born in Odessa, Ukraine. She started learning to play piano at the age of five and hasnt stopped since. Maya studied at the Conservatory in Ukraine and achieved Master of Arts in piano performance and piano teaching. Later she accompanied for dancers and singers of the Odessa Theater of Opera and Ballet. Maya teach music to childrens and adults more than 20 years. After moving to the US, she worked as an accompanist at the Andahazy School of Classical Ballet in Minnesotaand continues to teach. Read More

I started playing upright bass when I was 10 years old and quickly found that there was nothing that I enjoyed more than music. Throughout high school and college I played in orchestras, bands, jazz bands, rock bands and with singer songwriter friends. I began teaching music while I was in college. Although I was not an education major, I did take education classes and learned a lot about pedagogy during my time in college. I have experience teaching beginning percussion-intermediate percussion on mallet instruments, snare drum, timpani, drum set, and orchestral percussion. I've been interested in music ever since I was little and have been playing music with various instruments since I was in the 5th grade. I focused on saxophone when I was in junior high and continued through high school. It was my first passion even when going off to college. I teach with an emphasis on tone and sound production. I believe that once we know what sound we want to create we are better able to physically make it happen. Through this ideology I use the Suzuki method and like to prioritize listening and playing by ear before note reading when the students are young beginners. Even if the student is older, I like to incorporate ear training with a mixture of all the skills we must master as musicians--note reading, sight reading, improvising, etc. Read More
