For beginning students, I am willing to work with them on the book they are using in school band. I also like to use other flute technique books, such as Rubank, Melodious etudes, and flute duets as well. When the student has developed a confident tone and technique, I will introduce solo repertoire that is at a comfortable level for the student, as well as eventuall getting the student to learn the beauty of collaborating with a pianist or other form of accompanist. Once a lesson plan has been established with a student, I progress them through each lesson with specific goals. My goal is to infuse the student with understanding but also wonder and awe as to how music is created. There is always something worth praising in a student, and I am always sure to do that in our lessons after every performance.
