I began teaching privately about ten years ago. This occurred rather organically by having conversations with people in which they expressed interest in either learning a new instrument, or expanding on their preexisting skills. Though I do have a formal music education, I did start off self-taught, learning songs from my favorite bands and artists. Because of this, I use a combination of assigned songs and songs requested by the student to help build and conceptually realize their facility on their instrument, as well as basic scale and chord theory. For beginning students, I like to use the Suzuki Cello School books, approximately up to book 6. Then, I move to solo repertoire that is appropriate for the student and their musical goals. I like to use the Ivan Galamian Scale System for Violoncello. I also use the Yampolsky Violoncello technique book. For more technique exercises, I use the Feuillard Daily Exercises and assign exercises based on where the student needs improvement. Read More

I was assistant professor in University of Mississippi for ten years and taught applied cello and string Bass lessons. Many of my students went to further professional studies and started their music career.
