As mentioned before, I learned that I have an affinity to make the music fun. It's never just work with me. I believe that a musician has done his/her job not when he/she can channel the energy of the music onto the listener. I love watching a student's face light up when they are able to play a lick or a statement that they never thought they would be able to play, or when I see the proverbial lightbulb going on atop their heads. Instruments: Piano Violin Music
I began teaching piano and violin lessons 15 years ago and have been consistently teaching ever since. Encouraging daily practice, and helping the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument is one of the key points. While enjoyment is the number one rule, following their development and progress with certain method books are really important. I encourage my students to compose their own original material as well as participate in certification exams and recitals. Read More

I have been playing professionally for over 40 years and have taught music for 30. I enjoy teaching people to play or sing music because it is a gift to be given and received. I can also assist with orchestration or arranging instruments into a group format for performance. I can teach anyone with an interest to learn and do so on a regular basis.I have taught country, blues, modern, metal, classical, folk music, jazz, etc. Read More
Instruments: Drums Orchestral Percussion
My teaching experience dates back to my time in college as I spent many hours working with high-school marching bands and giving individual lessons on drum set and battery percussion. Once I moved to Los Angeles, the focus of my teaching switched to private lessons in students homes and rented studio spaces. After graduating from the Los Angeles College of Music, I was asked back as a substitute to teach their sight reading classes, to assist in styles classes such as Rock and Jazz, and as an assistant running the console in their "Recording for Musicians" class. I have been teaching private lessons since 2003, and am on the music faculty at El Camino College, where I have taught class piano to adult students for 9 years. This year I was the chair of the Music Department at California State Summer School for the Arts (CSSSA), an intensive summer program for high school students, where I oversee a staff of 20 music teachers and program meaningful performances and events for our students. I like to create a very warm, encouraging, relaxed and positive atmosphere for all my students. My teaching style is very much student-led in terms of goals and preferences. While I will create a general plan for each student to reach their particular goals, I never see my lesson plans as these rigid constructs that must be stuck to closely, and a guitar lesson may shift gears right in the middle of the lesson if I feel a student needs to spend a bit of extra time on one skill or concept before moving on, or if I find the student has picked up something much more quickly than expected, and we can move on to the next thing, or if the student asks a question that leads us to dive a little deeper into one particular topic that wasn't necessarily on the plan. I am an active member of Music Teachers Association of California (MTAC). My students take the Certificate of Merit (CM) test annually in performance, theory, sight-reading and ear training. Taking the CM test is optional but highly recommended. I also make sure my students have plenty of chances at performing on stage at recitals by organizing my own recitals or joining forces with other MTAC teachers. Having a recital to practice for is a great motivation for students to practice daily and gives the parents the chance to see their children's accomplishments. Read More
