Open-minded and flexible, Nerea strives for her students to learn through fun, hands on activities, always leaving her lessons with smiles on their faces. Beginner students are always taught the basics of posture, positioning and how to move the bow on the strings. They then go on to learn bowing and the strings names, followed by finger position and musical pieces. Although Nerea focuses on technique, she always tries to get her student play songs/musical pieces quickly, even if they are simple. Read More

A flute teacher in Colorado Springs who delights in being a part of my students' musical journeys, I have over forty years' teaching and performing experience in the United States, Germany, and Norway. I have my Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance and performed as a part of U.S. Army Bands. Over the years I have taught in music stores, band rooms, community centers, and my home studio. Students have shown accelerated progress in tone, musicianship, and technique; consistently placed in All-County, -District, and -State Honor Bands and Orchestras; been awarded superior ratings in Solo and Ensemble Festivals; and enjoyed the weekly interaction with a trusted adult who listens and genuinely cares about each individual student. I teach private music lessons for five years.Every year I play piano and guitar with Woodland Park Holiday Home tour. Listeners always enjoy our playing. I'm appreciated by local musicians and students. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for playing music. I'm always looking to bring on new students of all ages! Read More

I think it is extremely important to give students freedom to explore their own interests and foster their own development. Education is the lighting of a fire and I consider it a privelege to fuel that fire. As a student myself, I thrived when given a balance of direction and freedom from my teachers. I try to do the same for my students while also keeping in mind that each student is different. Read More

My methods would slightly vary on what goals the student is trying to achieve. However, all musicians must have a basic grasp of technique and fundamental skills in order to express music the way they would like to. Beginning with an overall assessment of technique is essential, and working to maintain and expand that level of proficiency is important for instrumentalists. After a routine has been established for warm ups and extension, I like to incorporate those skills into songs, pieces, or repertoire. Read More
