I graduated from the University of Redlands in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music, and played in the University's orchestra and various chamber groups while studying there. Almost every year I travels back to China and give master classes and exchange valuable teaching experience with the students and teachers there. Before relocating to LA, I was on faculty at the University of Texas Arlington and taught jazz trombone lessons, ensembles, and brass pedagogy. Maya studied upright bass performance at Berklee College of Music, where she earned a Berklee Merit Scholarship and the Bass Department Outstanding Performer Award and Scholarship. She played with the Berklee Contemporary Symphony Orchestra, with a highlight performance of Lord of the Rings Symphony at Bostons Symphony Hall. She tours nationally with Boston-based bummer pop band Future Teens. The group has been featured on NPRs All Songs Considered and in The Boston Globe, and was awarded Boston Music Awards Alt/Indie Artist of the Year 2019. Read More
