The most important thing for me as a teacher is to see my students having fun, and really enjoying learning their instrument. I want to see them be passionate about getting better because they’re excited about what’s coming next. By learning about the students goals, and also learning about their musical taste and the kinds of music that inspire them, I can create a lesson plan that totally dedicated to each individual student so that they get the most out of their lesson, and so that I get them closer to their goal. I'm a very passionate and invested artist that really enjoys watching his students grow and helping them achieve their goals. I just graduated from Temple University with my masters degree in Jazz Studies, but am versed in many styles of playing and composing. As a freelance trumpeter, I have played at venues all over the U.S. and multiple countries in Europe. Since moving to Philadelphia, I have performed with such names as Tim Warfield Jr., Mike Boone, John Swana, Byron Landham, at such venues as Heritage, Chris's Jazz Cafe, South, Temple Performing Arts Center and Time. It is important to be musically ambidextrous: chances are, in your band's rehearsal, your other musicians will share ideas using tabs, not traditional notation. You can be the best note-reader on planet Earth, but if you cannot communicate a language others use, you find yourself stuck. I always incorporate music that my student likes to listen to, and frequently request Spotify or iTunes playlists for reference. I try to adapt pop songs into my curriculum (from their playlists) to teach chord theory and songwriting structure, and encourage students to write their own music. Read More

I currently teach in the public schools during the day, and I perform and teach by night. I love encouraging my students to develop their skills while maintaining their love of music and learning. Honing a craft should not crush creativity, it should not stifle their individuality. Music making should be natural, passionate, and my job is to give them the tools to become the flutist *they* want to be! Read More
Instruments: Piano
I've been teaching piano to students of all ages as my sole profession since 2002. I usually have between 20 and 25 students at a time. I have also earned certification through the Music Teachers National Association through a combination of testing and proofs of competency. I keep up to date professionally through my memberships in Lancaster Music Teachers Association and the Main Line Music Teachers Association, the National Guild of Piano Teachers and in my role as the Center Coordinator for the Music Development Program. Most of all though, I've learned from my students, who are always the best teachers. The part I love best about my job is that I get to cater the curriculum to each student individually. Each student can have their own "best assignment". Read More

I start each student with the Frances Clark Series. This is terrific in introducing all musical components to the learner. It starts off right away using ALL the notes on the piano. Black notes are used exclusively in some repertoire. Each building block is built upon the next and it just nicely adds , in a non-threatening way to what the student has learned before. I intersperse these books with other more seasonal books and the student and I build on that. Read More

I use a variety of methods for my teaching style. I usually have a few method books that I bring to a first lesson, and after meeting the student I will decide on the best one. Once the student has progressed and shows some motivation to be slightly challenged, I'll introduce "popular" music so that the student feels a sense of accomplishment! Music is associated with movies, radio, etc., so to be able to play something recognizable is exciting for the student and the teacher. Read More
