I am a very passionate and motivated instructor who truly enjoys sharing my love and curiosity of music with everyone. In 2016, I graduated from University of Pittsburgh with a B.A. in Jazz Studies. Some of the the highlights of my musical career have been studying under legendary Pittsburgh jazz guitarist, Joe Negri, and world renowned jazz pianist, Geri Allen at University of Pittsburgh. I am also an active performer throughout Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, and New York with my own jazz, funk, and jam group, The Clock Reads and have shared the stage with acts such as Poogie Bell, The Werks, Consider the Source, Robert Randolph. Teaching music is always something I've felt passionate about and I would love to share the experience and skills that I've learned over my 14 years of playing drums to anyone else with the same passion. I have a well rounded grasp on music theory as well as an ability to learn music by ear. I have always focused on teaching each student holistically. I hope to influence students in their discovery of music through various modalities of learning, including visual, auditory, proprio-kinesthitic (movement), with a special focus on audiation. During piano and flute study, we explore the instruments as acoustical marvels and the students' interactions with them. Voice lessons always involve the whole body and mind. My teaching experience includes a few trombone lessons here and there throughout my undergrad, piano tutoring, music history tutoring, and I also helped with my high school's band camp while completing my undergrad. These experiences have helped me to develop my own teaching style as well as learn how to be encouraging while still giving critique to help the student improve. There have been many teachers in my life that have opened the musical door for me and have made a difference in my life. She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in collaborative piano from Arizona State University, a Masters degree in collaborative piano from Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM), a Master's degree in vocal accompanying from Beijing Central Conservatory of Music in China, and a Bachelor's degree in Music (piano solo) from Guangzhou South China Normal University in China.
