My methods vary from student to student. Everyone learns differently. Although i recommend learning how to read music, it is not required and there have been plenty of great drummers that do not read. A normal lesson consists of covering all aspects of learning an instrument. We will do things such as go over sight reading, playing along to tracks, studying what makes the drum set sound great, as well as listening to music and watching videos of drummers that inspire us. For all students, I begin with classical fundamentals such as body alignment, breath support, and resonance and moving to topics including diction, vocal health, interpretation, and stage presence. I will work with the student to find repertoire that will best fit their voice, help achieve their musical goals, and be aligned with what they enjoy musically. I would love to find opportunities for students to perform their repertoire and show what they have learned whether that is a private recital for family and friends or a voice competition. Read More

I start all students with getting a firm grasps of the basics of tone production and air support. I do this through long tone exercises as well as scale work to start learning more notes on the instrument. I focus on slowing incorporating more dynamics, articulation, and time signatures from there. I then start to tailor instruction to goals the student has, whether that be for a school ensemble, a solo performance, or other musical goal such has playing in a gigging band. Read More
