With my new beginning students, who don’t have much experience, we start with the fundementals - singing posture, breathing, basic warm ups and their importance, music theory, and simple repertoire. For my more intermediate, advanced students, I will check to see where your fundementals are, and help you blossom from there. My intermediate to advance students will continue to work on breathing, breath control, warm ups, music therory, and will be assigned to contrasting songs at a time. Read More

When I teach beginners, I put my faith in the Hal Leonard Standard of Excellence series for woodwinds. For Pianist, the Suzuki series is quite good, as well as A Dozen A Day and the tried and true Mikrokosmos of Bela Bartok. For more advanced players, I like to work within their preferred style, ie RB, Rock, Classical, but also find it important draw relevant material from other styles like Jazz and non-Western music. Ive been teaching piano for the last 20+ years and love opening the world of music to my students. I started learning piano at age ten and continued my music education for 10 years. I was grateful to have mostly one-on one instruction, since this really trained me to be an empathetic teacher, focused on the needs of the individual student. Over the years I've also explored cello and ukulele but my first love has always been piano and Im so happy I can share this love with others. Read More
