I continued to study classical, pop, and jazz stlyes, and began performing at age 7, and teaching in high school. Since college, I have maintained a private studio, either at home or in pretigious music schools, and have also taught in the school setting. Typically I like to using songs and common chord progressions and incorporate different skills we are working on into songs. This way the student learns a repertoire while learning skills. However this is up for debate and we can cover whatever the student desires. Often times teachers teach a blanket method using certain scales, chords, ect, expecting that this will miraculously result in the improvement the student desires. I first started teaching and helping run brass sectionals at some local schools in 2004, but did not start teaching regualarly until I completed my degree in 2011. I find that young musicians make the most progress when playing for and with other people. I aim to make lessons fun and engaging and put a strong emphasis on playing duets. I also encourage students to enter competitions and play recitals. I have found competitions and recitals motivate students both before and after the event. Read More
