Especially on piano and keyboards, I have found that combining classical music and learning from books with learning music that students enjoy listening to on their own can revolutionize how students learn and enjoy their instrument. I also work with my students to learn their instrument and the necessary music theory concepts by writing their own melodies and small songs, so that students can feel creative while learning another method of processing the world around them. I have been teaching private lessons for over 2 years and have taught ages 4-18. My belief is that anyone can play the piano, as long as they have the right motivation and are willing to devote time to daily practice sessions. Young students (ages 4-6) are highly encouraged because I believe this is the best time to start and I have extensive experience with this age group because of my weekly interaction with preschoolers through my classes. I have the most experience teaching beginner students with the Suzuki method. The main focus of Dr. Suzuki’s method is teaching from a place of love and encouragement. I find this method teaches the technical fundamentals of cello playing while keeping the students progressing at rate suitable for their individual needs. I also emphasize regular scale and technical practice in addition to solo repertoire. I have a whole wealth of technical exercises and warm ups to share to make your everyday warm up different! Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students get really excited about reaching their goals. I consistently encourage students by giving them positive feedback about the progress they are making. I also help them push themselves to become better singers by being an inspiration and a mentor for them throughout their journey. I do feel that music is a journey, not a destination. I inspire my students to develop an appreciation for music that lasts their entire lives, and so my instruction is tailored to the individual no matter where they are on their journey. Read More

Everything will make more sense for you when you physicallyDO it. Then my card says, "Give 'em something theyCAN do." This is an important distinction! When the activities are do-able, from the very beginning, students experience success andtheir confidence begins to grow. Read More
