Instruments: Bass Guitar
I began teaching guitar lessons while in college. I taught to friends and family of friends who were interested in learning music, but too nervous to reach out to a teacher that they were not comfortable with. This experience really allowed me to hone my ability to teach students who had an interest in music, but lacked the experience level and confidence to step out of their comfort zone. This was a huge breakthrough for me, I really enjoyed the feeling of helping these people achieve their goals that may have otherwise been unrealized. Read More

Using a tried-and-true approach, I like to teach each student the basics of musicianship in a step-by-step method. Each new concept builds on the previous one. Each student learns a bit differently, that is the wonderful thing about being an individual! I fell that I am able to tap into a student's learning stlye from the first lesson, and find areas that need to be strengthened. This carries over into all areas of learning. Read More

For the total beginner, I take pen and paper and teach music theory and reading music. I'll give homework so the student can progress rapidly. For beginning students, I would start with a teaching method of olden days, which is all free and printable online, giving the student a background directly from the masters as they move forward. For intermediate students, I would find out exactly what style you like to play and find appropriate pieces at the right level. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students get really excited about reaching their goals. I consistently encourage students by giving them positive feedback about the progress they are making. I also help them push themselves to become better singers by being an inspiration and a mentor for them throughout their journey. I do feel that music is a journey, not a destination. I inspire my students to develop an appreciation for music that lasts their entire lives, and so my instruction is tailored to the individual no matter where they are on their journey. Read More

I attribute development of my teaching method to having started as young as I did; it is my firm belief that students and teachers should learn together, and that, especially with younger students, that it should be fun, engaging, and even a little bit silly at times. I both encourage and require regular practice on a consistent schedule; practicing not only helps students further their progress, but it helps them to avoid burnout by maintaining a view of music as less of a chore and more of a fun activity. There is no baby talk in my lessons! Although they may have less of a musical vocabulary, I believe all students have an awesome musical ability, and I view my role is to guide and and support them from eye level. I treat all of my students like great musicians and I am simply holding the door for them. Lessons will start with a great warm up and then once it's been determined what the need is, we will set a goal. Read More
Instruments: Piano Violin
For beginning students on violin we start with many techniques found in the Suzuki method. From there, we jump into different styles of music while still focusing on developing solid technical foundations for the student. Once we move into standard repertoire the lessons begin to change based on what the student needs. I am a firm believer in consistent practice. I would much rather have a student who practices daily for 15 minutes then a student who does not practice except for the day before their lesson for two hours. Read More
