Nothing is more rewarding to have students develop a compassion for the music that is played. Whether it is for family, friends or playing in front of a large audience. I think it is important for students to practice what is taught but not to overwhelm them. Music that they play whether it is for a recital or an audition should be an exciting and fulfilling experience and not feel like it is something that is overwhelming. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I greatly emphasize vocal exercises to help strengthen their voice. Once the student has a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce repertoire based on the genre of music they prefer, as well as basic songs that would benefit them to learn. No matter the ability level, fundamentals are of the utmost importance. Having a wide range of repertoire is also helpful learning different styles helps a student become more versatile. Read More

I studied music at WPUNJ with a focus on music theory as well as the business side of the music industry. I began teaching in 2006, and it continues to be a wonderful journey. I enjoy inspiring, motivating, and encouraging each student to become acquainted with the instrument so he or she can become more thoroughly skilled. I'm skilled at piano and electronic synthesizers, in which I can teach Classical or Contemporary music. Read More

My approach depends completely upon the genre and goals of my students and their skill level. For beginners, I must always take a lesson to explain exactly what each part of the instrument is and how it works. For rock and pop students, the very first thing I will teach them are open chords and the pentatonic scale, and maybe even a simple song depending upon the student. For classical, I like to start out with simple sight reading exercises and move on to material that applies the principles I teach. Read More

For all students we will work on breathing technique, vocal technique and applying those aspects into songs that they love to sing. If a student picks out a song that doesn't suit him/her, I will help them find the right song for them - building them a diverse repertoire that they can sing any time and any where, without any struggle. Brent started playing on pots and pans as a child and then moved to the drum set at the age of 8 with instruction from his two older brothers. He joined the school band and performed drum solos for entertainment at school events. Soon it became evident that being a drummer was his calling. Brent received his degree from Berklee College Of Music as a scholarship student and performed with many musicians in the Boston area. Read More

A pianist from my earliest memories and a piano teacher since 8th grade, I have loved, studied, and taught music for most of my life. I completed a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance at Washburn University under the teaching of James Rivers, then completed two Master of Arts Degrees from Dallas Theological Seminary. I deeply enjoy both performing and teaching music of all styles, from Bach to Broadway and all the sacred, jazz, and movie music I can fit in-between. Read More
