My approach to teaching is to share my love for music with my students. I will allow students to go at their own pace, and set realistic goals and expectations. I like to focus on intonation heavily, as anything other than excellent intonation is not good playing, in the words of a former instructor. I also encourage creative expression in my students, and will often ask them to try different methods of playing a single phrase in order to increase the depth of their musicality. Read More

I have been teaching private lessons since 2015, my freshman year in college. During that time, I have had students from a variety of ages, backgrounds, and levels of proficiency. My first teaching influence was my mom, who was a high school orchestra director and continues to teach strings to elementary school students part-time today. I have also been blessed to study with some truly amazing private instructors at IU's tremendous music school, namely Luke Gillespie (jazz piano), Fred Hammond (classical piano), Walter Smith III (improvisation), Steve Houghton (improvisation), and more. I began teaching lessons privately in high school, about 6 years ago, and throughout college consistently. I have taught brand new musicians, who have never opened their instrument case, all the way through high school levels. I believe in starting the young musicians right with a good sound. Together we will work on basic technique on each instrument, which will then assist them in learning music for band, their school ensembles or just personal knowledge and growth. Read More
Instruments: Drums
For beginning students, I start with a method book that provides them with both aural, visual, and kinesthetic instruction. In addition, I work with my students to develop a curriculum that is high individualized and caters to their needs and, more importantly, their interests. For intermediate and advanced students, I focus on repertoire, etudes, and coordination studies, in order to build technique while learning the standard repertoire pieces. All of my lessons are student directed, and thus each lesson is unique. Read More

I love educating and have been an educator for the last seven years. I first started as an educator peer tutoring at the college I attended. I was amazed by how my students progressed and changed over time. I was also amazed how their disposition towards learning was cultivated in different ways. This ignited my passion and want to teach. After receiving my Bachelors of Arts degree in Bass Performance and a Minor in Music Education I knew I wanted to further my studies in music education. Read More
Instruments: Voice
As a teacher, I have worked on vocal technique and coached audition material with many fellow actors. I have also worked with high-schoolers on material from musicals. I am a very patient, fun and challenging teacher for all skill levels. I have small recording studio in my home that I use to make demos for my students, or record lessons and backing tracks. UPON REQUEST: this small recording studio is portable, and should a student want to record in their home or meet me at a rented studio I can bring the recording equipment. Read More
