It really doesn't matter how quickly or slowly does a person learn. What matters is it's done positively and it should be lively! We are making music and it shouldn't end up becoming boring, sad or depressing! I ensure that the student enjoys every moment of the lesson. The only thing I request all students is to find some time to practise. That is the only way that we can get what we want. Read More
Instruments: Violin Viola
I will vary my methods based on the individual student. For students between 3 and 7, I will use the Suzuki method, which in my experience is best for students of that age. For beginners after that, I will use method books and repertoire that not only addresses the students technical and musical development at that point in time, but is also fun and enjoyable to play. I encourage students to play in their school or community orchestra and will assist and encourage students to play in chamber ensembles. Read More

I began teaching at the Erie Playhouse Summer Youtheatre Camp on my summers home from college. The students were ages 5-16 and we taught them basic music theory, as well as numerous musical theater and jazz standards throughout the week. We focused on proper vocal technique and placement as well as theory. In New York City, I taught babies and toddlers for a company called MoonSoup. The children were ages 3 months - 6 years and we learned simple songs and melodies. Read More

I do my best at motivating students and tell them, however much time you put into the instrument will always translate into what they can get out of it. I am very laid back but also very realistic. Setting short term and long terms goals will be the key to improvement. I believe in playing with music when you are learning as well. Instead of a metronome, you can practice exercises/rudiments to a song you like. Read More
Instruments: Guitar
We went over some very basic principles starting with listening and goal settings. We also learned how to play along with a rhythm and learn the names of the different notes, scales, and chords. These are foundational building blocks that I use with all my students, but the number one factor for learning an instrument is having a love for it. I remember the first time that someone showed me how to play an AC/DC song and to me it was the most amazing thing in the world. Read More
Instruments: Piano Trombone Euphonium
For beginner students, I will usually start with the basic fundamentals of playing the instrument. This would include tone production, articulation, flexibility, scales, arpeggios, and sight reading. Once the student has become more fluent in the technique of their instrument I will start to ask them what they want to work on and improve upon. One method I truly believe in is playing duets with the student. The best way to improve at anything is to practice with someone who has more experience. Read More

I love to let my students interests guide our lessons, its how I fell in love with my art and I think I think your own passion should lead your discoveries. That being said, I didn't never need a push to practice fundamentals or things that would make me a more well rounded musician - If you or your child needs a loving push I am there to provide that.
