I began taking piano lessons at the age of 8, and decided to further my studies by attending the music program at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. In 2018, I obtained my Bachelor's Degree in Music, studying piano and music composition. I have taught music in many different places in since 2016. In 1986, I graduated from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music with a Bachelors of Music degree in cello performance. I have played professionally as a gigging cellist in chamber music ensembles and orchestras for many years. I graduated from the University of Oregon with my Ba. in music composition in 2008. After that I moved back to Hawaii where I'm from and I began teaching private lessons. I have now taught music at several schools and am currently teaching at N.H.K.S. and teaching private lessons after school. I've been teaching private lessons for over 10 years. When teaching, I stress the basics so that students have a good foundation that they can build on. I also expose students to different musical styles and approaches to the drums. Clarks "Technical Studies," Max Schlossberg's "Daily Drills and Technical Studies" and a variety of solo and duet books. I start with each new student by getting to know what music styles they like, what songs they want to learn, what their goals are. I work with the students to select specific songs they want to learn NOW and then I build my entire lesson plan and approach around those.
