I cannot encourage going to live performances and concerts enough. It can bea concert of any type of music, so longthat itinspires my student to be more passionate about music! I also encourage my students to participate in competitions and recitals, as this opens their world and expands their knowledge about the musical world. I may be the teacher, but I love nothing more than my students talking about their own thoughts, opinions, and ideas with me, be it about playing, concerts, what they want to do with music, etc. Read More

From 2011 to 2014, I was a Juilliard Pre-College mentor. It was my job to offer support and advice to students in orchestra and brass quintet rehearsals. At Yale, I became a Teaching Artist in 2015 and gave private lessons to Yale Undergraduate students. As a Yale Teaching Artist, I also worked for the Music in Schools Initiative, teaching classes, sectionals, and private lessons to students in public schools in the greater New Haven area. Read More
Instruments: Voice
I start with the basics on any level of singer just to get a feel for their voice. For children I like to utilize a lot of imagery to go along with making sounds first and then worrying about the correctness later. Training the ear in singing is very important and also learning about the body in terms of singing is key. I have a set regimen of warm ups for both men and women than I alternate depending on the students age and skill level. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet Music
Inspired by the Music of Louis Armstrong and Al Hirt, I felt it was a sign for me to learn the Trumpet. The year was approximately 1961. I was 9 years old at the time. Now 60 years later, I still have that same love for Music and still enjoy playing the trumpet. I was taught by my grandfather, who was a Professor of Music who played and taught multiple brass and woodwind instruments. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet Trombone Euphonium Tuba
It is important that the student comes to their own realizations about playing using me as a guide, rather than being spoon-fed the information. Knowing how each student learns most efficiently is critical to success in a lesson, and I believe that each student should be taught using as multiple instructional methods as well, including sound, sight, and feel. By learning early on why the student chose their instrument and what they hope to get out of it, I can easily find a path to success that is both efficient and exciting. Read More
Instruments: Violin Viola
I tend to use the Suzuki Method for my students. I find that it helps create a solid foundation for the student and includes repertoire that is familiar to many. In addition to the Suzuki Method, I like to use etude books, duet books, and sight-reading books for those who are learning how to read music. I also like to incorporate Music Theory for all ages to gain more knowledge of how music works. Read More
Instruments: Clarinet
I base my method of teaching based on the individual student's needs and desires for their music. Whether that is an undergraduate student trying to get into a graduate school, a beginner looking to have a solid foundation, or someone who simply enjoys music and would like to get better, I'm sure we will have fun and learn something!
