I like to first assess what is the primary goal of the student and progress from there. Teaching methods that are too strict or too generic can often leave a lasting impression on a student (and not a good one!) Thus, I attempt to make all students feel comfortable and secure - with an understanding that mistakes are necessary to progress forward. Read More

I began teaching students in college, and have consistently taught students of all ages and experience levels. I love being able to help new students along their path to becoming the musician they want to be. I focus my lessons on the students musical interests and apply music theory and proper technique instruction to help them reach their goals. As someone who loves learning themselves, I also love passing knowledge on to new students and instilling a love of learning that will take them to the level of musicianship that they want to achieve. I also encourage students to enter competitions and play recitals. I have found competitions and recitals motivate students both before and after the event. Read More
Instruments: Cello
Typically I start with teaching the parts of the cello and showing the student how to sit and grab the cello. Next, I continue with the scale of D major and help with the left hand and train the ears for intonation. Finally, if the student shows more progress I start using a method. Read More

This will vary given the student's abilities and particular intentions for study. In general, I focus on five distinct areas of learning: technique, theoretical understanding, reading, intuitive playing/learning by ear, and performance. I like to keep each lesson fluid and organized, by maintaining structure within segments of study. Within these segments we may venture into something unanticipated, so long as the student expresses interest, readiness, and the ability to learn. Read More
