For adults who are usually more straight forward with what they want to get out of the lessons, I usually jump straight into asking them about their favorite artists and influences to give me a good idea of where they want to be in the long run. I then begin working out a long term plan/lesson schedule that will get help them reach their goals as soon as possible. Read More

I teach all levels (exclusively online using the Zoom platform until after the pandemic). I specialize in beginner pedagogy, for which I have created my own series of exercises that simultaneously teach the student basic technique on the clarinet while also teaching them counting and rhythm. I am an orchestral clarinetist, with many years of experience playing in many orchestras, but I have also played in wind bands, as well as other genres like flamenco, Latin music, and rock/pop. I'm a passionate musician and artist that has dedicated more than half of his life to this noble and amazing discipline, which I thoroughly believe that it does become your lifestyle and a way of seeing the world through completely different eyes. Art and music are about compassion, sharing, empathy, and humanity, anyone who decides to learn a musical instrument, or simply admire music and learn its ways even if you don't want to make a living out of it, will surely become a better human being. For methods; it will honestly depend on if the student has been working through something with a prior lesson teacher or after the first lesson and seeing what the interest is in either jazz or classical will go from there. For classical; I would utilize the Rubank method books that I used when doing classical music. For jazz studies, I find it more beneficial to start with the Charlie Parker Omnibook, Realbook, then start learning things by ear and memory depending on the level of the student and the progress we are making. With my teaching style, I prefer to work on what the student has an interest in if they are old enough to know. There is no better feeling than to work with a student who is enjoying the study of the current material. I also enjoy teaching beginning composition and bringing out the music from within. When the child is at a young age, I incorporate curriculum that targets ear-training and listening, reading, rhythmic awareness and time-keeping, and theory. Read More
