Besides having an extensive career as a performer, I have always maintained 10-30 private students ranging from beginners to professional musicians. I can teach and play almost any style of guitar, and I always teach reading music, music theory, and proper technique along with any particular songs the student is interested to learn. As a University student, I began teaching at local music schools and found that it's a wonderful way to share knowledge and experience, and also to be around youth and become aware of how differently young people now experience music and acquire knowledge. I was taught piano lessons at age 9 but lost contact with the teacher after a couple of years because we moved. From middle school on I joined the school band and stuck with it until the end of high school. Sometime in high school I picked up the piano again and have been playing it ever since. At IADT I took some keyboarding classes and I really enjoyed the experience; it made me play the piano like never before and inspired me to want to teach the instrument myself. Read More

Strong vocal development is rooted in an extensive understanding of healthy technique. Depending on the level and age of the student we will spend anywhere from a third to half of the lesson working on vocal exercises, which will aid in the student's foundation of developing a strong technical background. The remainder of the lesson will be spent working on repertoire. Repertoire assignments will depend greatly on the student's goals and desires. Read More

I have taught in a variety of settings including children through teens and adults, and children with disabilities, both online and in person, one-on-one and in groups. I started in 2014. I have found that the best method includes positive motivation, which includes both encouragement for what the student is doing successfully, and also pushing the student in areas where they may feel hesitant. If the student enjoys the lesson and feels positive, they'll be less hesitant and excel! Read More

My teaching style is relaxed but consistent. The goal for students is first to enjoy music, and then progress at their own pace. I am interested in knowing what student is looking to accomplish in music and introduce ways and exercises that will help him get where he wants to get. Music is free flowing and so should be methods of teaching. Practice is key to success in this discipline, and it takes commitment and patience to become one with your instrument. Read More

I prefer low stress, casual, and sometimes jovial - but engaging - lessons. All students are different, and players progress through their musical journey at different paces. So while I want to be a steady guide that motivates them, I also engage and interact with students in ways that fit them best. My teaching style centers around learning the student. I focus on the big picture. What can we do now that will make the most significant impact on the player's trajectory? Read More
Instruments: Drums Orchestral Percussion Latin Percussion
With all beginning students, I typically start with very minimal basics. Proper stretches, warm-up techniques (reudiments to help strengthen their dynamics), correct posture and the over all comfort of beginning. Once the student has progressed and understands the fundamentals, next would be reading music and counting time. When moving beyond the fundamentals, I try to focus more on the particular interest of the student. Is there a certain genre, a certain song, a certain player? Read More
