I feel so lucky to have performed for some of the greatest singers of our time: Rene Elise Goldsberry (Broadway), Jennifer Rowley (Metropolitan Opera), Kristine Opolais (Met), Ailyn Perz (Met), and Lisette Oropesa (Met). I have also performed in venues and companies all over the world: Thailand, Hawaii, Italy, and Austria. For beginning and intermediate students, I offer my own rudiment book to start learning on a practice pad or snare drum. For learning drum set, I use a variety of books and resources. I will meet and discuss these options with each student to find the right book for them. For more advanced students, I have them transcribe entire songs from bands they enjoy. I create Spotify playlists for students so they can easily access a variety of styles of music. Read More

I have performed with a wide variety of ensembles, including concert bands, wind ensembles, orchestras, brass quintets, and woodwind quintets. Notable examples include the Quincy Symphony Orchestra, Celestial Winds, and the Chicagoland Educator's Orchestra, Lincoln Municipal Band, and Hastings Symphony Orchestra. In addition to my performance and teaching experience, I am currently engaged in research about the construction of instruments that are the precursors to modern brass instruments. I have received funding from two separate grants provided by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and have already presented my research at the UNL Husker Horn Day, and at the Western Illinois University Horn Festival. My roots go back to marching percussion and drum set when I first started taking lessons and joined the Forest Lake Junior High marching band in 2007. Having not started band until 8th grade, a persistent feeling of being in over my head helped to drive my education and help me overcome challenging situations throughout my career. I do my best to meet a student where they are, find out their interests and what practice routine their schedules allow for, and then go from there to create a custom plan for them. Regardless of their level and goals, however, students are always reminded that scales and practice are some of the best tools for success. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing real life results from my students. Setting concrete goals is very important for me and my students, weather that be to get into all-state or to be able to play a scale at a certain bpm. First and foremost, I hope to cultivate passion in my students.
