I started playing the saxophone in the 5th grade. In 2011, I graduated from Miami University with Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education. After working in education as a substitute teacher for 6+ years, I am pursuing a career change. However, I still have a deep passion for music and the saxophone. In addition to performing with local community ensembles, I enjoy working with beginning and improving musicians. For beginning students who are children, I typically teach the book that they use in band class. If they/the parents would prefer a specific book or are not in band, I typically use Standard of Excellence, the red book and then progress to the blue book. Once the student understands the fundamentals and has progressed, I then begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance.  For adults, I learn of what the student is interested in and then I guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter the ability. I proceeded on teaching music in a wonderful camp to students ranging from 5 to 14 years old and the most memorable moments were the closing ceremony performances. I was so proud, moved, and deeply touched by the performances. Realizing how much my students had progressed and most importantly it was very powerful to recognize how much they gained confidence in themselves. Moreover, I had the honor of teaching vocal feminization, masculinization and androgyny to 16 - 40 year old students.

As previously stated, I believe that each session should be individualized to best suit each student's needs. For a typical beginner, I will first teach posture and note identification followed by basic warm-ups. Once the basics are taught, the student will be allowed more flexibility in the repertoire and specific skills he/she wants to learn. Nothing is more rewarding then seeing a student from many years ago either talk about when they had lessons with me or see them playing somewhere either live or online. I have had many students continue to play when they entered college just for fun and a way of meeting people with similar interests.
