I have been teaching students in music for 5+ years now, with guitar being my primary instrument. I was initially self taught, learning mainly from the countless forums, videos, and banks of articles and knowledge that the internet had to offer, but that would only take me so far. I then decided to major in music, for which I'm still undertaking, which has taken my musicianship much higher. I use a combination of teaching styles accumulated from my own time learning to expedite my students progress, so they don't have to take as long as I did to get to their goals on their instrument. During my stay inSpain I participated in several courses and master classes by such masters as David Russell, Ricardo Gallen, Jose Miguel Moreno, Fernando Espiand thanks to these courses I became interested in the world of ancient music and I started researching on the origins of the guitar; instruments such Vihuela, Renaissance Lute, Baroque Guitar etc... My research resulted in the publication of 60 articles for a website on the internet. Read More

My music leadership experience began with competitive show choir in 8th grade - voted Student of the Year - and these experiences inspired me through high school! The show choir program director appointed me tenor section leader in 9th grade and Voice Captain in 10th grade for my ability to lead voice sectional rehearsals and provide pianist accompaniment when needed. I am currently a performing arts coach for the Anaheim Union High School District, supporting vocal music and dance program directors with clinician and choreography services. Read More

As a piano teacher and composer, I have always loved teaching and working with children in the area of music and the arts. I graduated from Ithaca College School of Music with a BA in music composition and an instrumental emphasis on string bass and piano. I have been performing throughout grade school, in college and after college. I have been with groups such as the New Patlz Symphony Orchestra and the Saddleback Church Orchestra on string bass, and the Ulster County Concert Band on clarinet. Read More

Stick Control by George Lawrence Stone is a cornerstone of my teaching, its one of the best books out there for developing hand technique, speed, and control. I also use Syncopation by Ted Reed, which is a fantastic tool for building independence, improving reading skills, and applying rhythms in a musical way. One of the best ways to keep students engaged is getting them to play along with actual music as soon as possible. Read More

Every student progresses at their own pace. I write out the homework for the week on a piece of paper for both them and the parent to see. When their expectations are written out, it's easier to see how far they've progressed. Most of my lessons start out with asking how their week went and how much practice they were able to get in. We then review the material from the week before and talk about the progress or any difficulties they may have come across during the week. Read More
