My teaching method is different depending on the abilities of each student. For beginning students, I use the Haskell W. Harr Drum Method Books 1 2, Stick Control by George Lawrence Stone, and The All-American Drummer 150 Rudimental Swing solos by Charley Wilcoxin. Once I feel like a student is strong enough on the snare drum, I will then work with them on developing limb independence on the drum set. All of the snare drum method books that I use with my students will eventually be adapted for drum set. Read More

As the musical director for my college A Cappella group, there was an element of vocal teaching for new and existing members. We learned new song arrangements as a group, rather than assigning parts and having singers learn at home. Conversely, they taught me! It was a great collaboration. I'm currently accepting students of all ability levels, so my methods will be vastly different from beginner to advanced. For beginners, we start at the very beginning, learn how to hold the instrument and bow. Surprisingly, this first step can ruin or really hinder a person's technique down the road if it needs to be corrected.
