For voice students, we usually warm up, do technical exercises working on varying registers and techniques, and then work on repertoire. I often find the passages in a particular song that the student is struggling with and focus in on those, finding exercises to guide the student. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I began teaching bass guitar about 25 years ago in Rockland County, NY in a small music school in New City. I've also taught privately in students homes and my home studio for many years. I've taught all styles of playing from classic rock to Johnny Cash, from Metallica to Motown, from The Beatles to Iron Maiden.
