My teaching experience started in 2002 when I enrolled at the Conservatory of Music. Initially, I accepted private students in my home whose age ranged from 12 to 50 years years old. Then, after some time I decided to join the YMCA Music Department in Manila, Philippines. Since then, I have regularly taught students at home and at the YMCA studio. I have taught children and adults. I especially delight in helping beginners discover the beauties of music, the keyboard instruments and their classical repertoire, and the basics of music notation. Some of my students have been music majors who went on to become music professionals. Others have been non majors who wanted to learn music in order to expand their cultural horizons, experience the discipline and pleasures of performing an instrument and to learn to perform the pieces they always wanted to play. I welcome passing on what has been for me a world class jazz improvisation and flute instruction. This includes instruction from Frances Blaisdell, of world fame as a flute instructor at Manhattan School of Music and Stanford University. I also attended the jazz studies program at Rutgers University with specific instruction from Ted Dunbar and Kenny Barron. Every student approaches the instrument differently and has different needs and interests. Whoever I am teaching, I try to find some way to relate their hobby or other interest into what they need to learn. I believe the lesson sticks with the student for longer that way. I will ask you what types of music interest you, what you expect to get from the lessons and the guitar in general, and construct a lesson plan just for you. I focus on "practical application", meaning I don't clutter your notebook with sheet music and boring terms to memorize.
