I tailor my lessons to each individual student. Students learn at different rates, so, therefore, I want each student to progress at his or her own pace, without comparison to where my other students may be at. I want learning an instrument to be an enjoyable experience, and though the student may have to do and play practices, exercises, and pieces that they may not necessarily enjoy in the moment, it will all be beneficial to him or her in the long run and I will incorporate pieces and selections that interest them as well. For beginning students, such as children I focus on developing strong fundamentals such as air control, mouthpiece blowing, and hand-eye coordination with their instrument. This slowly moves into rhythm and pitch reading for beginners. Intermediate to advanced students build on these fundamentals and also have the privilege of learning repertoire with performance possibilities. My musical journey began when I was 12. I fell in love with the piano immediately. 3 years later I was working on my first instrumental album. My second piano teacher, Joan Gilbert, from Julliard School of Music helped me really uncover my raw talent in high school. This is the first time I trully was inspired and effectively motivated by a piano teacher. I had two teachers before that. I like to teach and talk about the songs and styles that were taught to me by my father when I was just getting in to music and guitar. I teach the with Suzuki method. The Suzuki Method focuses on the Mother Tongue Method and was created by Dr. Sinichi Suzuki. He, and I, believe that every child is able to play music beautifully. The method emphasizes listening and parental involvement. I look to find the balance between challenge and enjoyment for each student.
