I believe the most rewarding thing about being a teacher is seeing a student come into their lessons excited and passionate about their playing. One of the things I find encourages students to practice is to give them mini rewards when they successfully play a piece or etude, such as stickers or stamps. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements for violin students and piano adventures for piano students. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance.
