Again, my teaching style reflects my own experience. I learned the most from the teachers that recognized that the trumpet is an incredibly phisical instrument and each player brings a different physique to the instrument. A recognition of each player's strengths and weaknesses, both physically and mentally, allows me to be the most effective by targeting techniques that work and finding new approaches to those that do not. Every student learns a different way and can require a unique way of teaching. No one student will get the same teaching method. My teaching experience began while attending college and has been on and off with my performing schedule but I believe the performance has help me focused on teaching from real-world experience. I therefore dont like to spend a lot of time during lessons on topics a student may never use. This also helps the student hold interest in their lessons. I like to keep a fun, lighthearted, and exciting mood in my lessons. My priority is keeping students working towards their own goals. I certainly hope to influence those goals, but if the student doesn't have the motivation, no one else can help them. In some ways, I view myself not as a teacher, but as a guide.
