For beginning students who are children, I typically teach the book that they use in band class. If they/the parents would prefer a specific book or are not in band, I typically use Standard of Excellence, the red book and then progress to the blue book. This was part of my therapy after open heart surgery and a mini stroke.. I've been teaching guitar for the past 12 years, and more recently bass, ukulele, piano/keys, voice, percussion and studio recording as well. I have my students provide me with a list of artist or bands that they enjoy listening to as well as songs from those artists that they are interested in learning.
