In the first lessons with beginning students I always try to focus in having a good time doing music and not geting frustrated quickly. Music is not an esay thing when we start to learning it and for sure that students are going to have difficulties at the beginning. But, if they are conected with the enjoyment, they are going to overcome obstacles more easily. For advanced students, I divide the lesson in two parts: technique on the instrument and repertorire. I consider my teaching style to be comprised of two major components - physical and mental. The physical component includes things like picking, strumming, finger strength, finger dexterity, and left hand/right hand coordination. For this, I provide a variety of exercises which do not necessarily require musical knowledge. These can be taught at any time, but are especially valuable early in a student's learning path. They are also effective warm-up exercises before practice and before performances. Read More
Instruments: Piano Music Keyboard
I’m enthusiastic in teaching piano for students within diverse music backgrounds and wide array of age span. I’ve performed concerts across the state for competitions, festivals and outreach recitals. I also have rich experiences working as a collaborator in performances and rehearsals within ensemble groups either as a member or as a coach. Performing venues that I involved include Mixon Hall and Kulas Hall in Cleveland Institute of Music, Staller Center at Stony Brook University, Ruby Diamond Concert Hall in Tallahassee FL, University Center Hall at University of Florida, Beijing Concert Hall, etc. Read More

I use the Faber & Faber or Alfred teaching methods with students who are beginners. These methods teach note reading skills, music theory, aural and ear training skills, sight reading, and transposition. If you are a transfer student and have worked with a previous instructor, I'm happy to use the method books you're familiar with. For intermediate and advanced players, the focus is on technique and piano repertoire. I expect all of my students to practice regularly and will help you strategize the best way to incorporate successful practice methods into your training. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone
My approach to teaching is simple. I believe every student has a lens through which music feels exciting and natural. My job as a teacher is to help you discover it. For beginners, you might call this developing an interest or passion for music. Whether you're young or old, this is one of my favorite challenges as a teacher. For advanced players, it may be more about finding your voice, or dealing with issues of ego, purpose, technique, etc. Read More
Instruments: Piano
I am passionate about music and serious about my work. But I also have the flexibility to consider my students’ interests, abilities and obstacles as I plan their lessons and guide them through their practice. I love the process of teaching as it allows me to convey my thoughts and feelings about music to my students. I see music as organized sound and as an amazing human sonic creation that delights our senses, impacts out feeling states, and allows us to communicate abstract thoughts and feelings. Read More
Instruments: Voice
My teaching methods are individually tailored to the student's needs and abilities. For young students and/or for those with less voice experience, I like to combine the basics of singing along with musicianship skills to set the student up for success, incorporating lots of fun to keep the young students interested in practice and lessons. For more experienced students, I like to start with warmups and exercises that are designed to set the student up for success in repertoire, and then finish the lesson working through repertoire specifically working through challenging areas of each piece and finding an emotional connection to each piece once ideal technique is established.
