I'm committed to helping students access their musicality within. I've been turning students' passions into performance abilities for several years. I have a Bachelor's of Music for Jazz Piano Performance from University of North Texas '10, and a Master's of Music for Jazz Piano Performance at the Manhattan School of Music '13. I have had the opportunity to perform with some of my musical heroes in various contexts, sharing musical moments with artists such as Roy Hargrove, Christian McBride, John Abercrombie, Ambrose Akinmusire, Taylor Eigsti, Dayna Stephens, and many others. My methods are very creative and different for each students, depending on what the student wants to learn. I have a notebook for each student to keep track of how the student is progressing. I love to keep the lessons engaging and fun, sometimes I like playing duets or just sight read for fun. When I see that the students would like to make a career in music then I have many different technique etudes, orchestral excerpts and exercises to introduce them to. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice
For beginning piano students, I typically start with the Hal Leonard "My First Piano Adventure for the Young Beginner," series. As students progress in their piano studies, I begin introducing solo repertoire that will support the concepts being learned in the book series. I will also assign small writing projects from time to time, to sharpen students' compositional and music reading skills. For voice students, my approach will vary, depending on individual experience and skills. Read More

“Music is one of the most important parts in my life, it can raise someone's mood, get them excited, or make them calm and relaxed. I like teaching people instruments and involve more and more people fall in love with music. Because music allows us to feel nearly or possibly all emotions that we experience in our lives. Music is powerful in many other ways that could take your feelings away.” I have a lot of experience with all ages students but especially with beginners and advanced students. Read More
Instruments: Violin Viola Fiddle Music
My first violin student started with me 9 years ago during my undergraduate studies in Utah. I realized that teaching is much different than performing and started taking classes to be a better instructor. I grew up studying the Suzuki books and have registered Violin Teacher Training Units 1-4 with the Suzuki Association of the Americas. In college, I studied Violin Pedagogy with the esteemed pedagogue Dr. Kasia Sokol-Borup who demonstrated how to enhance the Suzuki method with other styles of teaching. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone
One of the most valuable life skills that music lessons can impart is the skill of objective self-analysis. This means being honest with oneself, both about areas that need improvement (weaknesses), but also existing strengths! I encourage students to use this skill in a musical context, with the hope that they then carry it out into other parts of their lives. My greatest strength as a teacher is my flexibility- I make sure to prepare for every lesson, but if a student comes in with a curveball that takes the lesson in a new direction, I'm happy to go with the flow, and to try and build and expose the deeper relationships between different areas of music and the saxophone.
