For beginner and novice students I start with discovering where they at playing wise and knowing their instrument. Repertoire wise I believe simple Arban studies and nursery rhymes are all a beginner needs to know to improve their skills. As a student becomes more skilled either Rochut studies or Tyrell's 40 Progressive Studies can really help a student tune their skills. For fundamentals, I believe air control, phrasing, and legato playing to be critical to improve. Read More

From all my years of teaching, I have developed useful skills in lesson planning along with creating musical activities and games. I teach people all over the world, which has helped me develop my skills in using Zoom, Livestreaming, and tutorial development. In addition, my teaching style is student-centered and encourages student participation. My students are priority and I practice in my lessons and consider mental health, good habits, positive reinforcement and self-love. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my college days as a Mandarin Chinese teacher. After I graduated, in addition to Chinese, I taught Middle School band, and started up my tutoring and private teaching business. Since then, I've taught at a variety of different schools, programs, and agencies, teaching Mandarin, ESL, and all types of music. I've been lucky enough to cross disciplines, teaching composition classes as well as pop music classes in Mandarin Chinese. Read More

My music career began in 1980's as an advertising copywriter and jingle composer in New York City within a big advertising agency. I composed well-known commercials for Purina Cat Chow, Cookie Crisp, Goya foods and other big brands. I created the "slogans" and tunes, hired the musicians, booked the studio recording time and produced the complete :30 TV commercial. After raising my children, traveling to kids parties and a dabble in local theater, I went back to college for a music teaching degree. Read More

I make it a point to ask all students (or parents for my younger ones) to purchase a notepad where assignments, expectations, exercises, tips/tricks can be written down to help them progress during the year and into the following week of lessons. My favorite aspect about teaching is pushing students beyond the limit they place for themselves. That being said there must be a mutual understanding that I will do all I can to help students get over a "learning hump" as I call it- I have access to a plethora of journals, articles, teaching websites, a personal library, all of these materials can be scanned, printed out, emailed and whatnot for the benefit of my students. My teaching experience begins in graduate school in San Diego. I spent most of high school and college developing my own skills. I have taught ages ranging from 10-25. I think it is important for teachers in an artistic field to have experience teaching outside their focus in order to learn more about how they teach. In graduate school, I taught a total of 6 undergraduate courses in Acting and Public Speaking. Read More

For beginning students, I always start by learning the notes on the staff that corresponds with their specific instrument. Knowledge and confidence of this is crucial to the learning process. Next, I pick a method book to work through to learn the fundamentals. For trombone, I use Rubank's "Elementary Method." It is a great progressive studies that has great explanations, exercises, etudes, duets, mini-solos, scales studies, and more for young students. Read More
