Every student learns in their own way, and I try to get that to happen. When the student really learns, they are excited and so am I! It is great to see students progress, and learn more and more. I try to make each lesson and each student an individual, not a mechanical, cookie-cutter process. Read More
Instruments: Clarinet
My teaching experience is varied, as I started as a music theory teacher in a piano studio, from 1995 to 2001. I taught theory to small groups of students, ages 3 to adult. I began teaching private clarinet lessons in earnest in 2005, working out of a music store in La Mesa; I taught there until 2011. During this time, I also taught band for a small private company in San Diego from 2006-2007. I took a break from music for a while, after a repetitive strain injury, and began my library career. For beginning students playing piano I typically start with Alfred's' Basic Piano Library, deciding on level when I learn about a students background in playing. On any brass wind instrument I will start with Measures of Success by FJH Music. It's important to me that students practice and understand the important of fundamentals in their music playing. A solid foundation provides students with the necessary tools to advance their musical career far past casually impressing friends with simple and redundant pieces. Read More
Instruments: Voice Violin Viola
Vocal students are encouraged to pick songs from whatever genre sparks their interest. With violin and viola I use the suzuki method of training and follow the books and lessons, and I use other books to supplement scales/technique. If a student already has musical literature I am very open to using that to build a specific curriculum for that student. Read More

Ive been teaching for the last four years and absolutely love it. Every student is so different and I love working with each student to approach music in a unique way, whatever their learning style may be. Since I have a broad background of performance in various instruments and styles, I think it is very important to support whatever musical interests my students have or wish to develop. To me, it is very important to really listen to what my student wants and figure out a way to help reach those musical goals together. Read More
