I first talk with my students to figure out their goals.  Once a reasonable goal has been agreed upon, I enthusiastically help them jump right into playing their instrument.  By breaking up portions of the lesson with review of simpler pieces, I encourage my students to play fun and simpler things as well, so that they do not beocme frustrated.  I always bring my positive attitude to each lesson, and have the students write down what to work on after each lesson. Although I have experience teaching both private, one-on-one lessons and group lessons in a classroom setting, I find that one-on-one lessons is the best way to learn. This allows students to go at their own pace and not have to feel rushed. Not to mention, it's way more enjoyable to learn when you have a patient teacher giving you support and motivation. In piano I learned the Russian method and do teach it but I also teach the popular and Jazz method of fake book reading. Music has always been at the center of my life and has given me so much. My saxophone teacher in high school was an inspiration to me and propelled me into music in college. In college I learned more and more about classical saxophone, and it became my dream to make that my living.
