Music lessons will certainly broaden the students knowledge of music. It has been proven through scientific study that the study of music will improve the individuals cognitive ability and aids in brain development. Children who study music develop higher math and problem solving skills. Age is not a factor as we are never to old to learn. My students range in age from 5 years old to well into their 70’s, many of whom simply want to improve their skills or recapture the joy of making music. The study and enjoyment of music can and often becomes a life long adventure whether its just for fun or as a career. Read More

I create custom lesson plans for each student, for unlike the trombone or the cello, everyone's voice is considerably different. I will first hear the students goals, and where they want to go, or what they want to do. Then, I will assess where they are at, and then customize lesson plans to take them from where they are to where they want to go. I will do this by giving them different songs to learn. Read More

I move at whatever pace is appropriate for the particular student. We set long-term goals so they have something they are working towards and are rewarded for hard work. Learning how to play the piano is about so much more than just the piano! The benefits reach far beyond music, helping them with school, self-confidence, and many other aspects in their everyday life. Although we do follow a method book for at least the first few years, we add additional solo music, and I let them choose from several level-appropriate pieces so that they are enjoying what they are learning. I recently finished my studies to receive my Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy degree from Sam Houston State University. At SHSU I gained experience working with a variety of clientele including those diagnosed with autism, dementia, traumatic brain injury (TBI), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and spina bifida. I also provided live percussion music with the Creative Movement Program with the dance department at Sam Houston State University. I hope that in the near future I can own my own private studio where I can host music lessons and music therapy sessions. Read More
Instruments: Piano
My method of teaching puts emphasis on the keyboard fundamentals that develop sound piano technique. I use a systematic approach in which the student progresses from their present level, whatever it may be, beginner, intermediate, or advanced, to their next level in a reasonable time. For students at the beginning or intermediate-beginning levels, I would choose from the Faber, Albert, Leonard, or Thompson piano methods. I always give the student after each lesson a method of practice for the music/lessons required. Read More
Instruments: Violin Viola
With children, I typically start with Essential Elements for Strings by Michael Allen, Robert Gillespie and Pamela Tellejohn Hayes. I complement that with the Suzuki method and other fun easy songs I have picked through the years of experience . Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce etudes, scales, vibrato and eventually shifting; and of course solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance.
