Hello, my name is Arterus, I go by Art or Arty. I am a senior Music Media Production major at Ball State University in Muncie, IN. I am originally from Evansville, IN. In high school I was very active in marching band and choir, and it where I first got my passion for music. I have experience in many different style of singing and love working with other musicians. After college, my goal is to be a recording engineer and teach solo voice lessons in my free time. Read More
Instruments: Piano Saxophone Clarinet
I cater my teaching and methods to each individual student and his/her needs and goals. For beginners, I often use Hal Leonard’s Essential Elements. After progressing past that, the Rubank books and Hite etudes work for many students. Starting around 8th grade, I introduce solo repertoire appropriate to their level. During lessons, I always have students work on some form of scale, sight-reading, and ear training. I have several duet books (and a Disney book!) that students love to sight-read from. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice Saxophone Flute Organ
I like to challenge my students when I feel they should be. I also try very hard to showcase them whenever possible to show the community the great talent that is amongst us. I would have to say my main approach to teaching is figuring out what works best for each individual student, seeing as though everyone learns differently and at different paces. Forcing a student to learn something when they don't want to is something I do not allow, I can only encourage but not force. Read More
Instruments: Piano
I started to teach private piano lessons since 2008, I have almost 8 years piano teaching experience. Back to my undergraduate days, I was running my home studio for 5 years in Beijing. I obtained my Master’s degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy at Ball State University. As a graduate assistant during my Master degree, I taught students in one on one lesson and group piano class of various ages and levels. In my lessons, I always try to explore students talents and help them to grow their passion on music in each lesson. Read More

Instruments: Guitar Bass Guitar Banjo
I start with a few different books depending on the student's interest. I try to encourage younger students to learn to read music. I have often used the Hal Leornard Guitar Method. Often adult students want to focus more on learning chords and how to play a few songs. Sometimes I use the Hal Learnard Tab Method or my own 16 page beginner's guitar book. Read More
Instruments: Flute Piccolo
I individualize my teaching methods for each student based on their ability level. After I assess the ability level, I find level-appropriate method books, scale studies, etudes, tone exercises, sight reading, and solo repertoire. I use method books that I am personally familiar with and like, but am open to looking for new, exciting options. I make sure that the students feels comfortable with materials, but is also challanged so that they may progress in their skills. Read More
