Later, I will introduce an exercise book called the Rubank's Method, which helps with articulation and technical skill. I also will ask the student to pick a fun songbook which they will be motivated to practice. I started teaching voice and piano lessons while I was a student at Wartburg College. I continued teaching when I moved to New Mexico and I now have ten years of studio teaching experience. After completing my Master's Degree in Vocal Performance, I returned to UNM to attain a New Mexico Teaching License. My beginners start on violin, and the first few weeks learning the basics of position and posture. Then I start them with Suzuki Book 1 and supplemental rhythm and theory exercises. After book 1, I assess their progress and drive and either switch them to Barbara Barber's Solos for Young Violinists, or have them stay through Suzuki Book 2 and 3. If my students have interest in viola, I encourage them to stay on violin until they are in high school or even longer (through Mozart concertos) if possible. Read More

I love setting lofty, reasonably challenging goals for my students and giving them music they think is too hard to play, and then watching their faces light up when they hit all the right notes they didn't know were possible to hit. I have multiple guitars of varying sizes for children and beginners, an upright piano (pictured), stage equipment, recording equipment, keyboards, tuners, strings, etc. I incorporate proper instrument care, music history and love convincing students to love new genres, styles and cultures of music.
