While maintaining her busy performance schedule, she teaches privately in the area. Her goal is to inspire her students to find the happiness of making music and help them to build up an efficient practice routine. For beginning students who are children, I usually start with Faber Piano Adventure books . Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will introduce some solo repertoire appropriate based on their interest for their first recital performance. Read More

I have experienced music in large variety of groups, from funk bands, to jazz bands, choirs, saxophone quartets, drum circles, as well as recording and mixing my own album. Music is about connections: there's nothing that the experience of music doesn't affect! When you take lessons from me, you know you are getting a great foundation of music for life, from reading music, theory, and correct technique, as well as something as broad as composition, improvisation, music technology, even dance! My teaching experience dates back to my undergraduate days as I began teaching private lessons around eight years ago. Since then, I have been consistently teaching students in local studios and in their homes for the last 5.5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. Learning to internalize music and see its connection is done through practice and technique. As we are in permanence and music is in transience, I focus on the permanence with the student; the technique, discipline, rhythm, so the student himself/herself has the tools to transcend the piano into music. Practice is the bread and butter for improving so I always give the student lessons to do until next time we meet, focusing on technique, as that will give the student power for music reading and learning. As I have taught many students on many different instruments, my focus has been on providing students with a firm foundation, including proper posture, breathing, embouchure, technique, and pitch/rhythm literacy. I have found great success in using the Essential Elements method books, and eventually move on to intermediate and advanced methods, focusing on etudes, scale studies, and solo repertoire. Beyond a traditionally classical approach, I believe strongly in listening to my students to realize what they desire to learn. Read More

My number one rule for teaching is patience and setting small goals each week. Every student should want to pick up the instrument days after the lesson. Seeing someone learn a song and playing it through correctly is a mini miracle. Progress through repetition and different exercises has been a high yield of success in my personal experiences. Praise for when a student fulfills a goal goes a far way in future lessons. Read More

I listen the music which the student has been practicing. Then, I guide him/her to make corrections and enhancements. I use positive reinforcement to strengthen those parts of the performance, and suggest and demonstrate correct concepts. Then, after hearing the piece again, decide whether review the assignment or move on. Playing duets with the student is often part of the process. Doing that helps them feel the true meaning of the music; and also helps make up for a pianist's ordinarily lack of group playing because he usually practices alone. Read More
