I am a professional jazz musician and composer in the Tampa Bay Area, playing gigs whenever I can, subbing in for USF, writing music for marching bands and other jazz groups, and more! I also teach lessons over at Northside Christian School in St. Petersburg, Florida. I teach there twice a week, and I have overall 12 students that I teach private individual lessons, mostly trombone, but also euphonium, tuba, and also trumpet as well. Read More

Instruments: Piano Violin Bass Guitar Electric Violin Double Bass Music

First lesson I start by assessing what level the student is at and what goals they have with their music and develop a lesson plan from there. I focus first on fundamentals of sound and technique to build a foundation for the student then work on scales and repertoire to get them playing music. From there it is a focus on musicality and performance. A lesson plan for example may be working on solo repertoire by breaking down the piece by focusing on different elements that make the song; the scale, they rhythm, certain patterns by measure, techniques required, etc. Read More

Instruments: Piano

I like to select a basic book on fundamentals supplemented with blues, popular, or jazz or seasonal music to Motivate the student. There will be some attention to scales and how chords are built along with other theory as it applies to the pieces they are studying. Some attention is required due to the cycle of fifths and why some keys are selected more than others. I expect the student to review our lesson no less that 4 times a week and not all at once just before the next lesson. Read More

Instruments: Piano Guitar Ukulele

The first step of teaching an instrument to anyone is accurately finding out how experienced they are with the instrument. As far as beginners go, when I was taught piano I used Alfred's Basic Piano library, among other similar books. I felt nothing was forced or unnecessary with those books, and it gives a good opportunity to set a nice goal-oriented pace with moving on up in skill level all the way to the upper intermediate level. Instruments: Piano Voice Trumpet French Horn Music

My methods 100% depend on where the student is and where he/she/they want to go. I have the most experience teaching young students (about 7 years old) who have had no experience or instruction in music. In such a case, I start with the fundamentals of music (how to read music), theory, and keyboard skills. Compositional exercises and etude drills (i.e. Hannon) help to reinforce the new ideas and build basic skills. Read More

Instruments: Piano

It feels like I embark on a musical adventure with each of my students!  I love to see children's eyes lighting up when they understand a concept, or when they achieve mastery on a lesson!  So, too, with adult students!  As each student travels down his or her path of musical understanding, I am convinced that being able to share in their learning experience is a great gift. Instruments: Piano Organ

My methods include a wide variety of resources. For beginning students I like both the Hal Leonard and John Thompson approaches. Along with the lesson books, i also encourage technical studies including scales, arpeggios and other studies to build up finger strength, dexterity and independence, As the student progresses, I introduce memory work, choring and basic improvisation. For the more advanced student I let them work on repertoire of their choosing, stressing a variety of genres and styles. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
