I became passionate about teaching during my master's degree studies at New England Conservatory. I followed that passion through a doctoral degree in Music and Human Learning at UT Austin, and since have taught at universities, summer camps, and after-school programs. At the Stanford Jazz Workshop, I have been the Faculty Director and the Co-Director of the Mentor Fellowship Program, and I am the co-founder of CU Denver's LYNX Music Industry Camp. Read More

I was my own first student. I began teaching myself how to play the piano over 10 years ago. Throughout this process I learned how to approach some typically confusing topics in much more digestible ways. A benefit to starting out as a self taught musician is that I had to learn how to make sense of things myself rather than memorizing information that a teacher fed me. A main focus of mine as a teacher is encouraging regular practice routines where the student can solidify the information we discuss in our lessons as well as uncover new questions they may have about the subject. I am a positive, energetic instructor and performer who loves working with students of all ages and backgrounds. I completed my bachelor's in music performance at the University of Wyoming in 2014, and have just completed my first semester as a Master's student in Jazz Studies at the University of Northern Colorado. In my time as a performer I have enjoyed performing many roles such as Yum-Yum in Gilbert and Sullivan's Mikado, Fiona in Brigadoon, and Marty in Grease. Read More

My method is definitively circumstantial to the student. If the student is hoping to perform casually, then we advance at a casual pace. If the student is hoping to perform competitively, we go much faster. Either way, I hope to transfer the art into a lens that grabs the student's heart and attention, since propelling the art - regardless of life circumstance - is my primary ambition. Read More

My teaching style is receptive and warm, but focused. I use goal-setting as a satisfying and organized way to break down musical lessons, which means lessons time is well spent and students have a good understanding of how and what to practice. Students remain engaged and satisfied with this approach, which provides proof of the progress that is taking place in lessons and in private practice time. Since music learning is highly cumulative, it's important to me that students have a thorough understanding of principles before moving on to new ones. Read More
