I took seven years of piano lessons in grade school and graduated from Florida State College with an Associate of Arts in Music degree. For beginner piano students, I have two methods books that I use. For young children, I use the Bastion Piano Basics series. It is colorful, fun, and exciting for young learners. It is also very informative, so parents can help their young ones practice if they need the help! For beginning adult students, I use the Faber Adult Piano Adventures series, as this is more tailored to older students. I encourage all students to communicate with me, express how they feel, what do they want to approach in general, so that we have the same goal, we will make effort together. Also encourage them to practice as much as they can after lessons, so we consistently making progress. Meanwhile, encourage them to participate more and more performance and competitions, it is not only about the actual rewards, it is also about building their confidence, ability, strength through the study of an instrument.
