Over the years, I've taken lessons from instructors who had an array of teaching styles. While in high school, I was taught through intimidation and was scared into learning, which is something I was able to handle. This methods can actually turn students away from music which is the main reason dislike approach. Students should be comfortable and relaxed when entering a lesson. I love tailoring each lesson to each individual student I teach. It is important to me that my students are interested in the material that they are learning. I enjoy helping my students reach their musical goals by selecting repertoires that appeal to them while also helping to address and resolve their technical deficiencies. For my beginning piano students, I typically start with Faber's Piano Adventures. For young singers, I use the Kodaly Method as a way of developing musical skills and teaching musical concepts. You can also improvise on songs that you hear on the radio without knowing the key of the song just by getting a feel of how the song sounds and you will find the notes on your instrument and start jamming to the songs you hear on the radio. I always encourage one of the parents to participate our lessons as audience and observe what we are doing, so they can have a tool and knowledge to help their kids between lessons. When parents can involve as our teammate, It will definitely speed up the improvement, and the result will show quickly. When students can play well, the backstage heroes are always the parents. For my voice students, I emphasis on breath support without pushing the voice, so student won’t feel tired easily from singing with a much more projected voice, and I also teach them vocal health.
