Additionally, I've taught 8 marching band ensembles and am currently writing music for some of those. I like to set realistic goals for students so that they can feel accomplished. I also find it's great to get an idea of exactly what they would like to play. For instance, if they love ACDC, picking a simple song like Back in Black to play and work up to something like Thunderstruck. It is important not to push them too hard. The program is a week long program for kids ages 4-18 and during the program I gave lessons to over 15 students. Shortly after, I began to advertise my ability to give private instruction. I enjoy introducing new material as it adds a variety of options and color to really discover their style as they continue to grow. It is highly important from the very beginning to set the stage for them to truly love what they do and everything else will come out of that.
