For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard’s essential elements. Once the students has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what students is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lesson engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I began teaching private lessons in high school part time 10 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio or at students homes. I've also taught music at many residential treatment facilities and programs with kids with special needs or severe psychiatric conditions. I set realistic goals for my students at each lesson. I like to demonstrate how to play- usually I count while the student plays, which helps with the beats. We may sing together or separate the note names or the song words. Every music phase requires different input. Students who struggle with note reading, get additional note reading and writing books. Depending on music difficulty, I prefer to learn the right hand melody first, then left hand. Read More

I am a native of Flower Mound, Texas, and I was first introduced to the joy of singing in my church’s children’s chorus at the age of five. I belonged to that chorus until I graduated from Marcus High School in 2013. In addition, I was a member of my school choruses beginning in fifth grade. I teach out of instructional books, notably books by Hal Leonard, Mel Bay, and Alfred. Sometimes, I use sheet music print outs, and draft up my own exercises.  I go back in forth in a non-conventional manner, adapting accordingly to the student's needs.  I like to incorporate exercises and warm ups to improve and enchance technique.  I also teach songs that the student would like to learn.  I'm very patient and rarely rigid in my approach, although I do stick to a general routine that allows a focused approach to learning. I am a third-year undergrad at NYU, studying Music Education with a concentration in instrumental performanceand I love it! Currently, I am working on the last of my classwork before student teaching full time. I hope to graduate in May 2024 with a B.M. in Music Education and my NYSED pK-12 certification.
