We work on technique, performance, note reading, sight reading, and interpretation. We also work on music theory. I always figure out where a student is at, and prefer to grow off the student's strengths as opposed to harping on their weaknesses. I have been in lessons before where teachers couldn't get past the smallest details, and these ruined the experience for me, as well as greatly affected what I was able to accomplish in my lessons. The lessons are set up to maintain a balance between fun (to keep them encouraged) and necessary exercises to build the foundations that will excel them to the next level. For piano I use the Alfred series, and for violin and viola I use a combination of Essential Elements and Suzuki books.  As students advance I introduce additional solo repertoire.  My voice students learn from a variety of sources.  I usually start with a song they know well and work from there.  Students also learn a variety of warm-ups and sight-singing techniques.   Read More

My professional experience includes assisting piano professors to teach undergraduate students of different abilities, teaching skills that range from basic scales to classical overtures to modern jazz. I also teach beginners how to read sheet music, and communicate with younger students’ parents to make sure they know how the students are progressing.
