I have been teaching piano for nearly ten years now. I know that every person is different and that there is not one right way to teach or to learn. I work to find things that work best for each student. I believe that reading music is a very important cornerstone in learning to play an instrument. For beginning adults and teenagers, I like to use Faber Adult Piano Adventures to teach the fundamentals. I complement these studies with other pieces according to each student's taste and technical needs. For very young children, I like to use Music for Little Mozarts and for older children, I use Faber Piano Adventures. I began teaching voice as a school project when I was 14 years old and realized that I I loved it! From then on, I always kept my hand in teaching throughout my high school and college years. I started teaching full time, at which point I added piano and speaking to my repertoire. I have experience as a performing singer, session musician and actor and I I love helping my students get the most out their lessons, whether they simply want to learn their instrument to the best of their ability, or learn more about writing music and the industry. For the past 30 years, I have been teaching students of all ages in my home and in their homes. I have had funny twin boys, serious adults who don't really care much for theory and teenage girls. I even was lucky enough to have as a student a young lady who was crowned Miss Colorado. When I began teaching, students always came to my home. I had my own piano studio for 5 years and I used to hold annual recital. I took a break of teaching due to relocation. I am passionate about teaching kids piano (mostly classical and a little pops) to keep them engaged. I do request consistent practice of more than 30 minutes a week for young students. It help to establish routine for them to be successful later in piano. If a students need more help, I do recommend a longer lesson (45 minutes) or twice a week lesson. Read More
