I first started teaching violin in high school as a part of the Music Buddies Program, where high school students in the top orchestra would pair with elementary and middle school children in the area who could not afford private lessons. In the past few years, I have taught students of all ages, from just 4 years old, all the way to 76 years old! I love teaching as I am always learning something new from my own students. Read More

I began teaching while I was in college to young band students who had never before picked up an instrument, whether it was the keyboard or the oboe. This required teaching not only the technique of the instrument but also foundational musicianship. I also worked consistently with other college-aged students while they completed their piano skills courses, as well as the younger oboists in their technique courses and reed making classes. Sharing the joy of music is what it's all about, but at the same time, everyone is different, so it's vital to nurture and encourage each student's natural abilities and inclinations, while showing them the way to new and wonderful worlds, and skills they didn't know they could master. Growing up with both Suzuki books and Hal Leonard Essential Elements books, those are what I prefer to use. Essential Elements, especially for string players, offers an incredible foundation for beginners. One thing I really love about those books is the use of scales from the start. As a college musician, you quickly learn the importance of scales. I place a high priority on scale practice as it is the foundation of all we play. Read More

My work with the DCYOP, an El-Sistema inspired program, involves teaching the basics of playing the violin, viola, cello and music theory, adjudicating students’ progress, leading sectionals and full rehearsals in various DC schools, some from the most underserved communities. Highlights are having all the different schools come together for a large performance at the Kennedy Center and the students performances with Yo-Yo Ma, Joshua Bell and Esperanza Spalding. I’ve also facilitated many youth orchestra performances and summer camps as string teaching artist in DC and Maryland showcasing that I can motivate the students to a high quality performance regardless of the amount of time. I have a Master of Science degree in Music education from Hofstra University. I have taught piano over 10 years. I hold a yearly recital at Steinway Piano Gallery. I encourage regular practice from my students, and believe that playing for friends and family is a must. Holiday music is fun for my students and I spend a month letting my students select holiday pieces to play. My main objective is for my students to have fun in the lessons and feel empowered.
